Publishing Event of the Year: Jesuit History Series Book Launch
With an expected attendance of over 80, Novalis Books will be celebrating the publication of the Jesuit History Series on Thursday, April 23 at Regis College. Not just another book launch, the Lieutenant Governor of Ontario, Honourable Elizabeth Dowdeswell, will be present to share a few words.
What began as a series of conversations about Jesuit history among a few became a journey to embark on a historical project to document the legacy of the Jesuit order in English-speaking Canada. Builders of Nation and Teachers of a Nation detail the compelling Jesuit History both written by a committee of Jesuit authors: Fr. Joseph Gavin, S.J., the author of Teachers of a Nation, and Fr. Jacques Monet, S.J., the editor of each volume.
The Jesuits were explorers, missionaries and linguists. They preserved and translated much of their history and traditions, learned Aboriginal languages, and developed dictionaries. The books detail their involvement in education and the founding of post-secondary institutions and parishes throughout Canada. The imagery and inspirational writing lead your through the vivid stories of their ministry over the years and their life of service of faith and the promotion of justice.
We invite all of you to join us in celebrating the launch of the first two volumes of the history of the Jesuits in English Canada, and to meet the authors as they share more about the unique process of writing this important history.
